CarolineS_drums Day 7
Gig tonight with reggae band Big Bang Roots, should be fun. Today I'll listen through some music for tonight and keep working on Sibelius Symphony 2 for Saturday's orchestra concert. I've found the first 3 movements of Sib 2 really challenging - to the point where I recommended to the conductor to get someone else for the concert who has already gig'ed it before - but finally made it to the finale which is nice and straightforward. Thankfully the conductor didn't let me back
CarolineS_drums Day 6
First up today is a rehearsal with trio Cygnus Flare to work on some new compositions. Then I need to learn Prokofiev's Classical Symphony and Sibelius Symphony no. 2 in the afternoon, and a few new tunes for a reggae gig tomorrow night with some guest singers, then off to a rehearsal with the MO Jazz Orchestra.
CarolineS_drums Day 5
This morning I went to see a local jazz pianist to let him hear me play and see if he'd take me on for some piano lessons. It was fun and I've got some new chord voicings to work on for Autumn Leaves and Milestones. This afternoon I've been working on Sibelius Symphony No. 2 for a concert this Saturday - it's not looking possible to play it from the timpani part alone and I won't meet the orchestra until the concert day so I've been working through the full score.. I love the

CarolineS_drums Day 4
Today the agency organising my function band has arranged for us to audition for a cruise ship contract, so we'll play 11 tunes for them in Kentish Town to see what they think. Then I'll head home and start working on some timpani parts for a gig on Saturday with the Amati Orchestra - we're doing Prokofiev Classical Symphony, Bruch Violin Concerto no. 1 and Sibelius Symphony 2. Here's a picture from yesterday's gig at Off The Cuff in London with my trio Cygnus Flare.

CarolineS_drums Day 3
Today I'm really looking forward to playing all original compositions with jazz-fusion trio Cygnus Flare. Then I'll come home to practice - got an 11 tune set list to learn for another band tomorrow.

CarolineS_drums Day 2
Eek, day two of the blog and I haven't had time to come online so am rushing to fit it in before midnight. I play piano for fun as a second instrument and really enjoy it so recently took the plunge and joined a band. It's a jazz big band and I had my first gig with them this afternoon - it was really fun and I got to play a nice Steinway grand piano. Then I went to D10 studios in North London to record a promo video with a new function band.. which was also really fun, here'

CarolineS_drums blog Day 1
Having attended an inspirational workshop this week at the Musicians' Union HQ in London, I've decided to start blogging! I'll talk about my day-to-day life and activities as a drummer in London. Today is Day 1. I'm starting off with a recording session with a new 5-piece band organised by a cruise ship agency. Then will head to Passing Clouds to play a live set with Big Bang Roots, supporting reggae superstar Macka B for the Passing Clouds 10 year birthday party.
